Palo Alto Firewall Health Checks & Policy Cleanup

A structured review of your Palo Alto Networks firewalls, from PAN-OS versions and hardening to rulebase hygiene and logging, with clear, prioritized fixes.

SK Palo Health: keep your Palo Alto firewalls efficient and secure

SK Palo Health is our signature program for maintaining the efficient operation of Palo Alto Networks firewalls. It starts with a structured health check and can continue as ongoing health management and monitoring, so your firewalls do not drift back into the state that made the review necessary.

What the health check covers

  • Software and support. PAN-OS version, end-of-life status, recommended releases and open security advisories that apply to you.
  • Hardening. Management-interface exposure, administrator accounts and roles, authentication, and certificate expiry.
  • Rulebase hygiene. Unused, shadowed, redundant and overly broad rules, using rule hit counts and policy analysis.
  • Security profiles. Whether threat prevention, URL filtering and WildFire are applied to the rules that carry real traffic.
  • Dynamic updates and licenses. Content update schedules and subscription status.
  • High availability. HA configuration, synchronization and failover readiness.
  • Logging and visibility. Log forwarding, retention and whether the logs answer the questions an incident would ask.
  • Backups and documentation. Configuration backups and whether the documentation matches reality.

What you receive

A written report with findings grouped by risk, the effort needed to fix each one and a recommended order of work. We walk through the report with you and can make the changes, coach your team through them, or both.

Policy cleanup and rule audits

Policy cleanup is often the most valuable part of the work. Removing unused and shadowed rules, tightening broad access and converting port-based rules to application-based rules reduces attack surface and makes the next audit far easier. Every removal is backed by hit-count data and agreed with you before it happens.

Ongoing health management

For clients without full-time Palo Alto expertise on staff, SK Palo Health can continue as a recurring service: regular reviews, patch and upgrade planning, vulnerability review when new advisories are published, and help when something looks wrong.

Frequently asked questions

How often should a Palo Alto firewall have a health check?

At least once a year, and after any major change such as a migration, a large rulebase change, an acquisition or a significant security advisory. Ongoing SK Palo Health clients receive regular reviews.

Will a health check disrupt production?

No. The review works from configuration exports and read-only data. Any changes are planned separately and scheduled with you.
